Summary

Telephone Triage Medical Assistants work alongside Clinicians and perform services in accordance with the telephone triage physician’s orders. Medical assistants are trained to perform administrative as well as clinical duties under the supervision of the Director of Medical Affairs, Chief Medical Officer, and Telephone Triage physicians.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Courteously answers telephones and directs calls to appropriate staff.
  2. Records demographics in Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  3. Verifies patients’ insurance information, addresses and telephone numbers to ensure proper billing and accuracy.
  4. Provides excellent customer service for patients.
  5. Types, records, reports, and correspondences. May use Windows XP for these tasks.
  6. Receives and routes messages and documents.
  7. Schedules follow-up physician appointments (Telephone triage and at the centers level).
  1. Obtains and records patient medical history and personal data.
  2. Assesses patients on initial visit and each follow up visit.
  3. Assists Telephone Triage physician with visit connection.
  4. Explains physician’s instructions as needed.
  5. Provides service in accordance with reimbursement, ethical and legal guidelines.
  6. Informs the Telephone Triage physician and other related personnel of changes in the patient’s needs and/or physical changes.
  7. Writes daily notes according to the Federal and State guidelines.
  1. Checks in and out patients in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
  1. Communicates with the Telephone Triage physician regarding patient’s status, obtaining additional orders if necessary.
  2. Assumes responsibilities for self-development by continually striving to improve his/her knowledge through educational programs, attendance at workshops and conferences to keep all certifications up to date.
  3. Observes confidentiality and safeguards on all patient-related information and medical facility operational data.
  4. Ensures that all HIPAA/OSHA standards are in compliance.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned .
