Job Description

The Utilities Locator performs skilled activities related to locating Socket's fiber plant, based on the laws and regulations set out by the State of Missouri. Familiarity with industry standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures is expected. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all the duties and responsibilities performed by positions in this class.Responsible for locating underground utility lines for Fiber PlantUses utility maps, as-built civil engineering drawings, G.I.S. information, and various pipe and electronic locating equipmentUtilizes stakes, flags, and/or paint to mark the location of underground utilitiesPrepares various reports, forms, and memos to document work completed, problems encountered and/or resolvedVerifies field information and notifies the designated parties regarding updates and correctionsInvestigates and prepares detailed written documentation on excavation(s) which results in damage to underground utilitiesOperates and maintains mechanical and electronic equipmentMust be available to work varying schedules, overtime, and on-call duty, as requiredMaintains regular attendance and punctualityPerforms other duties of a similar nature or levelRequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Knowledge of:Utility locating practices and proceduresG.I.S., G.P.S.Materials, equipment, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground utilitiesSocket required safety proceduresApplicable state and local vehicle ordinancesBasic construction practicesSkill in:Operating and maintaining electronic equipment used in locating underground utilitiesUsing a computer and related software to:Read and interpret utility maps and as-built civil engineering drawingsLocate underground utilities using multiple methods of locatingUnderstand and carry out written and oral instructionsMaintain small to medium-sized equipment and trucksComplete paperwork and documentationCommunicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or G.E.D., and two years of directly related maintenance or utility locating experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Must have at the time of hire and be able to maintain a valid Missouri driver's license.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position requires heavy walking and lifting up to 40lbs.
