What Will Be Your Impact And Experience At Camp
  • Provide enthusiastic and inspiring leadership to summer staff, ensuring a supportive, safe, and exciting atmosphere for spirited campers.
  • Attend orientations and contribute to campsite outlines, group formulations, and staff assignments.
  • Assist in the preparation of the campsite, staff training, and general housekeeping tasks.
  • Plan, execute, and coordinate camp activities with detailed communications, schedules, behavioral expectations, and desired outcomes.
  • Review weekly camp theme guides and participate in themed events.
  • Ensure program equipment and supplies are ordered, available, and maintained.
  • Observe camper behavior, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply positive behavior management techniques.
  • Support inclusive camp activities that reflect the development of each camper and Kids in the Game goals.
  • Support counselors and specialists during scheduled periods; manage the group and engage campers in activities.
  • Plan and execute weekly theme events with the leadership team.
  • Contribute to daily drop-off and pick-up operations for a smooth experience for campers and parents.
What We Are Looking For

Kids in the Game seeks enthusiastic Assistant Directors at 9-10 dynamic summer camp locations. As the right hand to the Camp Director, you will help create an amazing camp culture, oversee summer staff, and provide inspiring leadership to campers. You will help develop camp programming and create the daily structure of the camp schedule and daily lessons. You will ensure counselors and specialists stay on task and participate to keep camp running smoothly.

  • Provide enthusiastic and inspiring leadership to summer staff in a safe, supportive, and exciting atmosphere.
  • Attend orientations and contribute to staffing plans and assignments.
  • Assist with campsite preparation, staff training, and housekeeping tasks.
  • Plan and coordinate camp activities with clear communications and outcomes.
  • Ensure program equipment and supplies are ordered, available, and maintained.
  • Enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures; apply positive behavior management techniques.
  • Support inclusive activities and the development of each camper.
  • Assist with special events and weekly themes with the leadership team.
  • Assist with special projects on non-off-site days to enhance the camp program.
  • Contribute to drop-off and pick-up operations.
Pre-Summer & Summer Work Schedule
  • Pre Summer Camp Expectations: Mid May to June (8-10 hours per week)
  • Attend Assistant Director meetings and team check-ins
  • For Programming Assistant Directors: create weekly schedules, prepare for weekly events, review Camp Theme Guides, connect with Specialists and Division Leaders, support parent inquiries
  • Attend Camp Leadership meetings and trainings; support staff retention and camp marketing
  • Participate in virtual or in-person camp fairs/events to promote the camp
  • Attend mandatory trainings (Core Trainings, all-staff events) before and during the season
Summer Camp Schedule & Locations
  • June 17 August 22, 2025 (8 weeks or 7 weeks by location)
  • Full-time in-person leadership; 7:30am 5:00pm; 8 weeks (8 weeks camp) or 7 weeks (some locations)
  • Locations: Inwood, Upper East Side, East Village, Park Slope, Greenpoint, West Village, Fort Greene
Compensation

This is a part-time, seasonal position based in New York City. Availability: part-time 8-15+ hours/week for pre-summer work and full-time during summer to oversee camp operations.

Pre-Summer Compensation

  • Monthly stipend mid May - June: $250 (milestone-based)
  • Training bonus for May-June: $355 (with breakdowns for virtual and on-site trainings)
  • Mandatory attendance and completion of trainings; prorated if milestones are not met

Summer Compensation

  • Biweekly salary payments (July-August 2025)
  • Salary ranges by weeks: 8 weeks or 7 weeks totals
  • Estimated total salary depending on weeks and training stipend
  • Compensation based on camp enrollment, prior experience, and role
  • End-of-camp bonuses may be distributed based on enrollment and satisfaction ratings
Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Physical exam and TB test within one year; NYS and national background checks; CPR/First Aid/AED certified
  • At least 2 years of professional camp leadership experience; youth program development; staff supervision; parent relations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience as a supervisor for youth development programs or as an educator (2+ years)
  • Commit to part-time remote during the school year and eight weeks in summer
  • Attend mandatory trainings and team-building activities
  • Ability to establish strong relationships with staff, participants, parents, and caregivers
  • Proficient with organizational communication channels
