The Sterile Processing Technician Lead oversees the decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of medical instruments to ensure patient safety and compliance with health standards. They lead daily operations within the Sterile Processing Department, provide guidance and education to staff, and manage communication and compliance activities. In addition, they assist with case management, equipment maintenance, and support departmental policies and special projects as needed.
Overview:The Sterile Processing Technician Lead supports with properly decontaminating, assembling, and sterilizing medical equipment and instruments in order to comply with safety standards and provide quality patient care.
Responsibilities:• Works under the direction of Supervisor and assists with the daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD)
• Serves as a departmental resource for SPD and other departments and models excellent customer service • Maintains frequent and ongoing communication with the Sterile Processing Supervisor • Expert in all aspects of the sterile processing cycle and ability to provide guidance and education to SPD employees • Assumes role and responsibilities Sterile Processing Supervisor when assigned • Assists Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintaining department production requirements by leading and directing SPD employees • Assists with case carts management, case picking, and communicates issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor • Uses excellent communication skills when discussing instrument needs with Sterile Processing Supervisor, SPD Liaisons, and/or OR Clinical Coordinators • Ensures that all equipment is functioning optimally and report issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor and/or the appropriate department • Assists the Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintenance of departmental compliance logs • Assists SPD Manager with implementation and enforcement of departmental policies • Assists with special projects and interdepartmental committees as assigned. • Other duties as assigned.
