Day to day as a Peer Support Specialist As a Part-Time Peer Support Specialist in the Prevention and Recovery (PREP) Program at Wasatch Behavioral Health, you'll play a crucial role in supporting young individuals aged 15-26 who are experiencing or are at high risk of developing psychosis. This innovative program employs a coordinated specialty care treatment model that emphasizes comprehensive, client-centered services. Your responsibilities will include facilitating access to vital supportive services, such as case management, medication management, therapy, and family education and support. Additionally, you'll assist clients in their pursuit of education or employment opportunities, fostering a transformative and empowering environment. This position not only contributes to the well-being of the community but also allows you to actively engage in a mission-driven organization dedicated to mental health excellence.
Are you the Peer Support Specialist we're looking for? To thrive as a Part-Time Peer Support Specialist in the PREP Program at Wasatch Behavioral Health, several key skills and attributes are essential. First and foremost, strong communication skills are critical for effectively engaging with clients and their families, fostering trust and understanding. Empathy and active listening are vital, as you'll be working with individuals facing significant mental health challenges, needing your genuine support and guidance. Additionally, problem-solving abilities will enhance your capacity to assist clients in navigating their unique situations, while a customer-centric approach ensures that you prioritize their needs and preferences.
A collaborative mindset is also important, as you'll work alongside interdisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated care. Lastly, adaptability and resilience are necessary for managing the dynamic nature of the mental health landscape, allowing you to respond effectively to the evolving needs of clients.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
- Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; AND One (1) year post high school education in social work
- psychology or a related field; AND One (1) year of general work experience; OR An equivalent combination of related education and experience.
- Preferred Qualifications: Successfully completed a Peer Support Training through the Utah Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH); Self-identified individual who is in recovery from a mental health and/or substance use disorder; or parent of a child with a behavioral health disorder; or other adult who has or has had an ongoing and personal relationship with an individual with a behavioral health disorder.
