Under the supervision of an RN, performs basic patient care and other related technical and clinical support activities.

Responsibilities include:

• Assisting patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and eating.
• Assisting with keeping patient rooms/areas stocked, clean and orderly.
• Monitoring patient status and response; reporting abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Performing basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including but not limited to: monitoring vital signs, EKG testing, phlebotomy, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
• Assisting with transporting patients, as needed.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Competencies required include: accountability, customer service, organization skills, patient and family centered care, patient safety - ancillary/support, problem solving, responding to change, and standards of behavior.

Education and certification requirements include: no degree or any other education earned (required) and BLS Instructor American Heart E-Card (BLS Instructor AHA ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART).

Additional job information includes: complexity of work requiring critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Required work experience: three (3) months of patient care experience demonstrating the ability to perform basic patient care or certification of completion from a formal training program required. EKG and phlebotomy competencies are required within six (6) months of hire date.

Working conditions and physical requirements include: bending and stooping, climbing, keyboard entry, kneeling, lifting/carrying patients 35 pounds or greater, lifting or carrying 0 - 25 lbs non-patient, lifting or carrying 2501 lbs - 75 lbs non-patient, pushing or pulling 0 - 25 lbs non-patient, pushing or pulling 26 - 75 lbs non-patient, pushing or pulling > 75 lbs non-patient, reaching, repetitive movement foot/leg, repetitive movement hand/arm, running, sitting, squatting, standing, walking, audible speech, hearing acuity, depth perception, distinguish color, seeing - far, seeing - near, bio hazardous waste, biological hazards - respiratory, biological hazards - skin or ingestion, blood and/or bodily fluids, communicable diseases and/or pathogens, hazardous chemicals, hazardous medication, latex, computer monitor, moving mechanical parts, needles/sharp objects, and wet or slippery surfaces.
