Schedule: Shift varies. Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays is required.GENERAL SUMMARY:

Works under the direction of Mechanic “A”; replaces Inspector “B” and Hostler when required. This position will support a safety and customer service culture through programs, procedures, and other related work to achieve TARC’s mission and strategic outcomes. The position is responsible for meeting or exceeding all TARC policies and procedures with strict adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations; and performing related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under direction of Mechanic “A” diagnoses malfunctions and performs vehicle repairs in accordance with all relevant local, state and federal guidelines and requirements.
  • Operates company truck to pick up parts at other locations.
  • Under direction of Mechanic “A” assists with “road/service calls.
  • Responsible for ensuring duties of the position are performed in a safe/effective manner.
  • Under direction of Mechanic “A” performs basic troubleshooting on electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Records time spent, parts used, and repairs and/or maintenance conducted on appropriate forms.
  • Identifies and reports any additional maintenance and/or repairs found necessary.
  • Performs inspections required by company and government entities as required.
  • Performs the duties of Hostler when required, including operation of coach. (See Hostler position description).
  • Operates forklift to change fare boxes
  • Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Some Diesel and/or automotive mechanic verifiable work experience.
  • May have technical college training in diesel of medium to heavy duty equipment mechanics or related experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Kentucky or Indiana Commercial Class B Driver's License with a passenger and air brakes endorsements within 60 days of hire.
  • Successful performance on pre-employment tests.

Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the above stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to successfully pass a DOT Physical including bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, using appropriate English grammar and syntax.
  • Ability to safety and properly operate a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to user computerized diagnostic equipment.
  • Must have the ability to safely and properly operate a coach or other vehicle.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Incumbents generally work in a noisy environment with adequate light and temperature. There may be occasional exposure to extreme temperatures, loud noise, fumes, odors, dust, mist, gases, and poor ventilation; must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. Work will require mobility including lifting or moving materials.
