Job Title: Locksmith

Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Primary Purpose:
Maintain all locksets and door hardware in top working order so as to minimize interruption of the educational process caused by equipment failure.



Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED certificate
Valid Texas driver's license
Must be eligible to drive based on the Texas DPS School Transportation Guidelines



Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and the ability to communicate effectively
Demonstrate success in performing required tasks as a locksmith



Experience:
Three (3) years experience as a locksmith



Major Responsibilities and Duties:


1. Maintain all door and window hardware in the District.


2. Change lock combinations, set locks for as many as four different key ways, disassemble and repair locks, make keys, install locks/door checks/panic hardware, and repair/replace metal window hardware.


3. Purchase parts and supplies as authorized by supervisor; assume responsibility for tools, equipment, and supplies on the locksmith inventory.

1. Respond to calls after work hours and /or on weekends to make emergency repairs.

5. Complete work orders and logs daily.


6. Solicit bids, purchase and assume responsibility for hardware and related materials.


7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
None



Equipment Used:
Locks, keys, carpentry and locksmith hand tools. Lap top computer and software.

Tobacco Free, Gun Free, Drug Free



Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Typical school atmosphere. Frequent interruptions. Strenuous standing, stooping, walking, climbing ladders, bending, pushing and pulling, must be physically fit and able to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds. Working indoors, outdoors, in extreme temperatures including hot and cold temperature swings, inclement weather, works with chemicals, exposure to dust, and slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Frequent district wide travel.
