Job Description
The Infusion Nurse is responsible for directing and coordinating Vascular Access nursing care for patients based on established requirements for clinical nursing practices by state and national standards; and is responsible for the safe and smooth management of all aspects of patient care in connection with Vascular Access (VA)/IV Therapy. This process includes assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating patients and administrative processes to provide the best patient care and customer service. The Infusion Nurse accepts a role of clinician and teacher by demonstrating skills of clinical knowledge and education to patients to develop the best patient care plan; is expected to be talented in critical thinking, management, problem solving, medical terminology, professional development, and must be able to recognize and react to urgent/emergent needs.
The Infusion Nurse collaborates with other professional disciples to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes; supports the organization vision and mission, and demonstrates respect, dignity, kindness and compassion in every patient encounter.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Administer and monitor IV/Infusion Therapy procedures and processes.
· Review and monitor the schedule daily for accuracy and efficiencies.
· Reviews next day’s scheduled appointments for any add-ons or cancellations.
· Review chart for new starts, verify patient meets criteria for both the payer reimbursement protocols and the drug manufacture.
· Process insurance benefit verification for each visit, ensure coverage is active.
· Process prior authorizations. Ensure insurance authorizations are approved and up to date and accurately and timely entered in EPIC and linked to the appropriate appointments.
· Determine purchase method such as buy and bill or specialty pharmacy.
· Complete enrollment forms and process accordingly.
· Place the appropriate orders for procedure in EPIC and complete the referral module.
· Complete LMN for Migraine patients with 90 day hx form completion.
· Enroll patients with Pharmaceutical Copay Assist Programs per eligibility requirements.
· Communicate accurately to the patient the financial policies and their responsibility, address any financial concerns or questions to the patient in a timely manner.
· Process chart prep per procedure guidelines.
· Monitor and log fridge temp for main fridge and MA hub. Advise clinical supervisor of any issues.
· Mixing drugs, taking vitals, pausing/completing pump for restroom, etc and document as needed.
· Maintains the housekeeping and restock of the infusion room (change pillow cases, cleanliness, neatness of counters, and cull magazines older than 3 months, etc.)
· Ensures medical equipment and instruments to be clean and functional at all times.
· Monitor and Orders drugs (includes Toxins and Infusions) and all infusion supplies.
· Maintains injectable log. (ensure which vials used and logged accurately and timely).
· Bag prep for infusions, pull supplies for designated appointment per protocol.
· Send supplies and charts to Cape office for infusions.
· Post Infusion charges.
· Payer guideline cheat-sheet maintain on a regular basis payer policy changes on drug criteria and reimbursements.
· Complete and Maintain Performa for all drugs Yearly/Bi-Yearly.
· Update Admin accordingly of any changes.
· All new drugs provide WF, Performa, Payer Policy guidelines to Admin for review.
· Maintaining a high level of constant attention to detail, critical thinking.
· Maintain strictest confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA compliance.
· Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
· Enhances professional growth and development through in-service meetings, education programs, conferences, etc.
· Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE:
· RN or LPN certification is required
· IV/Infusion Therapy experience required
· Knowledge of medical terminology
· Strong organizational skills
· Ability to prioritize work during heavy workload situations
· Proficient in Windows environment and Microsoft Office
· Have excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent telephone etiquette skills
· Experience with medical records; Previous EHR experience, Epic a plus
· Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in giving patient care.
· Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
· Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
· Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and medications as directed. Skill in taking vital signs.
· Skill in maintaining records and recording test results.
· Skill in developing effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
· Ability to work independently and work effectively as a team contributor on day to day assignments
· Ability to maintain quality control standards.
· Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
· Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
· Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and written.

Typical Working Conditions: Exposure to medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Possible exposure to communicable diseases.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and fax machines.
