Job Description The Environmental Health and Safety Officer II, under general direction, performs highly advanced and specialized work in programs to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local regulatory agencies, as well as Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) policies and regulations.
This position may up to $65,0000, depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. Responsibilities: - Conducts regular inspections and audits of laboratory and shop facilities to ensure compliance. Responsible for composing reports and providing information and support to ensure correction of violations.
- Ensures RMS equipment throughout campus is maintained, calibrated, and inspected. Performs routine maintenance on automated external defibrillators and maintains records for AED program. Participates in CPR/AED training program.
- Develops standard operating procedures for environmental health, safety, and risk management programs. Assists in maintaining comprehensive manuals, guides, checklists, training presentations, procedures, and policies for RMS programs as well as the review of proposed events and research and sponsored program projects to determine impact on environmental health, safety, and risk management.
- Investigates indoor air quality concerns on campus; documents findings, evaluates conditions, consults on remediation, and verifies correction of issues.
- Responds to emergencies, accidents, or incidents, as necessary, and provides technical expertise regarding hazard evaluations, recommendations, and follow-ups. Performs investigation of injury incidents that occur to employees, students, and visitors and implements corrective action(s) to prevent recurrence to ensure campus safety.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience: - Bachelor's degree in related field of Environmental Health and Safety or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years of related experience in environmental health and safety.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
- Knowledge of environmental rules, regulations, and standards.
- Knowledge of OSHA and other health and safety regulations.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: - Three to five years of Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety programs experience.
Special Requirements: - Applicants with equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree may be considered. One year of the related experience is the equivalent of one college year. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have four years of related experience to meet the equivalency in lieu of a Bachelor's degree plus the minimum required years of experience. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have a total of six years of experience.
