Environmental Health & Safety Officer - Paying up to $38/hr.

Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Officer to assist management and staff in developing and implementing occupational, environmental, health, and safety procedures and policies. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of EHS procedures and policies.
  • Perform project and facility reviews, provide safety training, and advise on safety matters.
  • Communicate with internal and external clients to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Identify potential problems and opportunities affecting work.
  • Monitor compliance with safety procedures and regulations, including safety and emergency response plans.
  • Perform site inspections to assess compliance with safety and health program requirements and maintain records.
  • Ensure safety-related equipment is inspected, maintained, and/or certified as appropriate.
  • Develop safety plans for laboratory, facility, and field sites, including emergency response and natural disaster plans.
  • Review test/work plans, SOPs, and protocols for appropriate safety controls.
  • Contribute to the selection and design of new facilities and equipment, proposals, plans, and reports.
  • Recommend safety specifications and protective devices for equipment and fixed structures.
  • Coordinate and conduct work area and risk assessments, job safety analysis, hazard surveys, and program evaluations.
  • Evaluate hazardous conditions and recommend engineering controls, administrative controls, and/or personal protective equipment.
  • Perform incident and near-miss investigations, root cause analysis, and communicate corrective/preventive actions to management.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze incident reports and other special reports as required.
  • Serve as a member of emergency response and hazardous material spill teams.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science/science-based technology, safety, industrial hygiene, or environmental health; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of EHS experience in anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, controlling, and confirming protection from environmental stressors in the workplace.
  • Occupational, Environment, Health, and Safety certification(s) (e.g., CIH, CSP) preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of laboratory safety; chemical, pharmaceutical, and/or Process Safety Management (PSM)/Risk Management Program (RMP) industries preferred.
