JOB DESCRIPTION - Chief Mine Engineer
The Chief Mine Engineer is responsible for the guidance, coordination, and oversight of Surveying, Ore Control, Short and Medium Range Planning. The Chief Mine Engineer will maintain, coordinate, and communicate the quality of mine plans as well as monitor the progress of the operations. The Chief Mine Engineer is responsible for coordinating and communication of mine plans with operations and other key stakeholders. Must be a leader, a mentor, willing to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, apply sound engineering knowledge and skills to create solutions to operational challenges and maximize profit. Essential Functions: Be responsible for your safety and the safety of your team members and contractors.
Lead the OC, Short- and Medium-term planning and surveying teams.
Assist and mentor Ore/Grade control engineer to maximize ore value based on economics, geology, and metallurgy.
Assist and mentor Short Range Planner to establish, execute, and effectively monitor weekly and monthly plans.
Actively participate in weekly planning and other meetings.
Coordinate and socialize mine plans with mine operations, processing, and key stakeholders. effectively interacting with geology, hydrology geotechnical and drill & blast.
Contribute and assist Long Range Planning including fleet sizing, dump designs, technical studies, and asset optimization.
Troubleshoot problems that arise and frequently inspect pits, dumps, roads and facilities to analyze and recommend solutions.
Responsible for recognizing and detailing mine designs and fleet efficiency issues and implementing improvements to designs and efficiencies.
Analyze data and prepare technical memos or presentations to assist in the decision-making process.
Mentor and develop skills of other Technical Services staff members.
Monitor performance and develop strategies to improve the performance of the team.
Contribute to the development and update of policies and procedures in engineering.
Develop and manage annual budgets.
Track actual production and compare progress to the long- and short-range plans.
Assist with designing and implementing special projects.
Ensure that engineering design is in accordance with sound engineering practice.
- Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.
Additional Duties: Advanced knowledge of Hexagon MinePlan software packages.
Strong proficiency in Mine planning and designing software packages such as Hexagon MinePlan, Vulcan, Datamine, FMS such as Modular Mining Dispatch, ProVision; Databases such as acQuire, Access.
Must be able to manage time effectively and set priorities.
Strong leadership skills and ability to create a positive work environment.
Self-motivated and safety conscious.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstratable project management skills.
Knowledge of MSHA and State, Environmental and Safety regulations is beneficial.
Proved experience leading a diverse team of Engineers and Technicians.
Required Education and Experience: Requires seven (7) plus years of directly related open pit Mine Planning and Mine Operations Experience.
A bachelor's degree in mining engineering or related field.
